Florigen

Florigen builds controlled production systems for plant-derived active compounds, combining indoor cultivation with integrated processing to deliver consistent, pharmaceutical-grade biomass. Production is no longer dependent on climate, geography or seasonality, but designed for year-round reliability and reproducible composition.

Cultivation, processing and extraction are developed as one integrated system to maximise yield, purity and consistency. Florigen removes variability at the source by controlling the full biological input.

Reliable, scalable and fit for industrial use.

Research & Development Roadmap

Early Summer 2026

Pilot Trial & Proof of Concept

Florigen is currently preparing its first pilot trial, expected to start early summer 2026. The pilot is made possible through the HortiScience Innovation Center (HIC) voucher arrangement and will take place in the Delphy Improvement Center facilities in Bleiswijk.

The trial focuses on indoor peppermint cultivation for menthol production and investigates how controlled environmental conditions such as light intensity, climate strategies and cultivation methods influence biomass production, oil yield and menthol concentration.

The project serves as a practical first validation and Proof of Concept of Florigen’s approach to controlled production of high-value plant compounds.
Q3 2026

Controlled Ingredient Systems Programme

In Q3 2026, Florigen aims to initiate a broader R&D programme focused on controlled production systems for medicinal and functional ingredients from plant crops.

The programme will explore how controlled cultivation, plant stress strategies, monitoring and compound optimization can be combined to increase the production of valuable plant compounds.

Florigen aims to develop scalable production models for strategic crops with vulnerable global supply chains.
